🍏 Enjoy the comforting warmth of Easy Old Fashioned Apple Crisp, made with tender spiced apples and a crunchy oat topping.
🍨 This classic dessert is simple to prepare and perfect to serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a cozy treat.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

6 golden delicious apples peeled and chopped (or other varieties, can also be sliced)

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice

1 cup light brown sugar

3/4 cup old fashioned oats (quick oats can be used with a slightly different texture)

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pinch of kosher salt

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter diced into small cubes

Instructions

1-Butter an 8Γ—8 baking dish or spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set it aside.

2-In a mixing bowl, combine the 6 peeled and chopped golden delicious apples (or your choice), 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice. Stir well to coat evenly.

3-Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out nicely.

4-In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup light brown sugar, 3/4 cup old fashioned oats, 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, pinch of kosher salt, and 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter diced into small cubes.

5-Use a pastry cutter, two forks, or your hands to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until it looks like pea-sized crumbs. Don’t overmix!

6-Spread the topping evenly over the apples. Gently pat it down to flatten.

7-Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until the topping turns golden brown and the filling bubbles. Ovens vary, so check at 40 minutes.

8-Let it cool slightly. Serve warm with vanilla bean ice cream or whipped cream for the win.

Notes

🍏 Use any apple variety you prefer; golden delicious, Granny Smith, or Fuji work well.
🍎 Peeling apples is optional; peeled apples are preferred by kids but wash thoroughly if leaving skins on.
⏲️ Adjust baking time as oven temperatures vary; leftovers refrigerate well and reheat nicely.
