🍝 This Simple Ground Beef Casserole recipe offers a comforting, easy-to-make family meal packed with flavorful ingredients and melted cheddar cheese.
πŸ§€ It combines lean ground beef with penne pasta and marinara sauce for a hearty baked dish that’s versatile and perfect for any night of the week.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

– 1 pound (about 450 grams) of uncooked penne pasta

– 1 tablespoon of olive oil

– 1 pound (about 450 grams) of lean ground beef (90% lean or higher)

– 1/2 medium onion, chopped (Vidalia or yellow)

– 1 clove garlic, minced

– 1.5 cups (about 360 ml) of marinara sauce

– Salt and pepper to taste

– 1.5 cups (about 170 grams) of shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

1- Boil salted water in a large pot and cook 1 pound of uncooked penne pasta for about 10 minutes, making sure it’s slightly undercooked to prevent sogginess when baked.

2- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat and add 1 pound of lean ground beef along with 1/2 chopped medium onion; sautΓ© for around 10 minutes, breaking up the meat as it cooks.

3- Add 1 minced garlic clove partway through the cooking to enhance the flavor without overpowering the dish.

4- Drain any excess fat from the skillet, then stir in 1.5 cups of marinara sauce, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste, and heat everything through for a few minutes.

5- Drain the cooked pasta and transfer it to the prepared baking dish; pour the beef and sauce mixture over it, tossing gently to combine evenly.

6- Spread the mixture smoothly in the dish and top with 1.5 cups of shredded cheddar cheese; bake uncovered for 10 minutes until the cheese melts, then broil briefly for a browned top if desired.

7- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor, making this a quick family favorite.
