Instructions
1-Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
2-In a bowl, combine 1 box chocolate cake mix, 1 can cherry pie filling, 2 eggs, and 1 teaspoon almond or vanilla extract; stir by hand until just combined.
3-Spray a 13 x 9 inch baking pan with cooking spray, then pour the batter into the pan and spread it evenly to the edges.
4-Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
5-While the cake is warm, prepare the glaze: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup sugar, 1/3 cup milk, and 5 tablespoons butter; heat and stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture boils for one minute.
6-Remove the glaze from heat and stir in 1 cup chocolate chips until melted and smooth.
7-Pour the warm glaze evenly over the warm cake and spread with a spatula.
8-Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing, though it can be served warm.
