  • Total Time: 2 hours 5 minutes

Ingredients

– All-purpose flour

– Active dry yeast

– Milk

– Granulated sugar

– Butter used as a substitute for shortening

– Salt

– One large egg

– One egg white for brushing before baking

– Light brown sugar

– Room temperature butter

– Cinnamon

– Optional cardamom

Instructions

1-In a large bowl, combine the warm milk mixture with the flour, yeast, and egg to create the dough. Knead on a floured surface until smooth.

2-Let the dough rise in a covered, greased bowl for 1-1.5 hours. Once doubled, roll it into a large rectangle and spread the filling evenly.

3-Fold the dough into thirds, cut it into strips, braid them, and shape into knots. Allow the knots to rest for another 30 minutes.

4-Brush the knots with the one egg white and sprinkle with granulated sugar before baking at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes, until lightly browned and bubbling.
