๐Ÿช Enjoy the perfect homemade treat with Crispy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies featuring a delightful texture from large-flake oats and a caramelized sugar coating.
๐Ÿซ These cookies balance crispiness with a hint of chewiness, making them irresistible for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 25 minutes
  • Yield: About 22 cookies

Ingredients

– 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled

– 1/2 cup (100 g) white granulated sugar

– 1/2 cup (90 g) light brown sugar

– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

– 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

– 1/2 teaspoon salt, reduce to 1/4 teaspoon if using salted butter

– 1/2 cup (113 g) salted or unsalted butter, at room temperature

– 1 large egg

– 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

– 3/4 cup (65 g) rolled oats, large-flake, old-fashioned

– 1/3 cup (55 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

– 1/3 cup (65 g) white granulated sugar for topping

Instructions

1-First, in a large bowl, combine the flour, white granulated sugar, light brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Then, add the butter, egg, and vanilla, and beat the mixture until it forms a moist dough. Next, mix in the rolled oats and chocolate chips to evenly distribute them.

2-After that, cover the dough and refrigerate it for 1 hour to help it firm up. This step is key for the cookies to hold their shape and get that crispy finish. Once chilled, preheat the oven to 350ยฐF on the regular bake setting, not fan-assisted, to ensure even cooking.

3-Scoop the dough into rounded tablespoon-sized balls and dip each one in the white granulated sugar for that extra caramelized layer. Place the balls on an ungreased cookie sheet, spacing them about 4 inches apart and 2 inches from the edges. Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers still look moist.

Notes

๐Ÿฅฃ Use large-flake old-fashioned oats for best texture; quick oats are a substitute but instant oats are not recommended.
๐Ÿงˆ Soften butter to around 67ยฐF; avoid over-softening to prevent greasy cookies.
๐Ÿญ Rolling dough balls in sugar before baking adds a caramelized layer and extra crunch.
