🍯 The sweet cinnamon filling and cream cheese icing combine for a perfect breakfast or treat that everyone will love.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 5 minutes
  • Yield: 10-12 cinnamon rolls 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 and 3/4 cups (344g) all-purpose flour

1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup (180ml) whole milk

3 tablespoons (43g) unsalted butter

2 and 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast

1 large egg

3 tablespoons (43g) unsalted butter

1/3 cup (67g) packed light or dark brown sugar

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

4 ounces (113g) full-fat cream cheese

2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter

2/3 cup (80g) confectioners’ sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

1-Step 1: Mixing the Dough In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt to create your base. Warm the milk and butter to about 110°F (43°C), melt the butter, then whisk in the yeast until dissolved. Pour this warm mixture into the dry ingredients, add the egg, and mix until a soft dough forms, which takes just a few minutes.

2-Step 2: Kneading and Rising Knead the dough on a floured surface for 3-5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl and let it rest for 10 minutes before moving on. For the next stage, roll the dough into a 14 by 8-inch rectangle and spread the softened butter over it.

3-Step 3: Adding Filling and Shaping Mix the cinnamon and brown sugar, then sprinkle it evenly over the buttered dough. Carefully roll up the dough into a 14-inch log and cut it into 10-12 even rolls. Arrange these rolls in a greased 9 or 10-inch pan and cover them to let rise.

4-Step 4: Baking and Icing Let the rolls rise in a warm, draft-free area for 60-90 minutes until doubled in size. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the rolls for 24-27 minutes until they’re lightly browned. For the icing, beat the cream cheese until smooth, add the butter and mix, then beat in the confectioners’ sugar and vanilla before spreading it over the warm rolls.

Notes

🌡 Use warm (not hot) milk and butter to activate yeast without killing it.
🌾 Use only enough flour to keep the dough workable and soft.
🧈 Use softened butter for the filling to ensure even spreading.
🔪 Cut rolls with a sharp knife or dental floss to keep their shape during baking.
🌡 Let rolls rise in a warm, draft-free place for the best dough texture.
❄ Rolls can be frozen before or after rising for later baking.
🍽 Store leftovers at room temperature up to one day or refrigerate for up to five days.
