๐Ÿณ This Overnight Breakfast Casserole makes morning meals effortless by allowing you to prepare ahead and enjoy a hearty, savory dish.
๐Ÿฅ“ Packed with bacon, cheese, and fresh veggies, it’s a flavorful and satisfying way to start your day or serve at brunch gatherings.

  • Total Time: 4 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

12 slices thick-sliced bread, cubed (about 14 cups)

12 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled, or 1 cup diced ham

3 green onions, thinly sliced

ยฝ red bell pepper, finely diced

4 cups shredded cheddar cheese

6 large eggs

3 cups milk

ยฝ teaspoon dry mustard powder

ยฝ teaspoon salt

ยฝ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1-First Steps: Prep and Mix Cube the bread and either leave it out overnight or dry it in the oven at 300ยฐF (149ยฐC) for about 10 minutes without browning. Whisk together eggs, milk, dry mustard powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Grease a 9ร—13-inch (23ร—33 cm) baking dish to prevent sticking and make cleanup easy.

2-Layering and Soaking Layer half of the bread cubes in the dish, then add half of the bacon or ham, green onions, red peppers, and cheese on top. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients for even flavor in every bite. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole to cover all the bread, then cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.

3-Baking and Finishing Before baking, let the casserole sit at room temperature while you preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (177ยฐC). Bake it covered with foil for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. For a golden finish, broil for about 3 minutes until bubbly and crisp.
