πŸ¦ƒ Achieve flavorful and juicy turkey every time with this easy-to-make homemade turkey rub.
🌿 Packed with a blend of spices that enhance natural turkey flavors, this rub can be tailored for roasting, frying, or smoking.

  • Total Time: 3 minutes
  • Yield: Enough rub for a 12-pound turkey

Ingredients

– 1 tablespoon coarse kosher salt

– 1 tablespoon chili powder

– 1 tablespoon paprika

– 1/2 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper

– 1/2 tablespoon onion powder

– 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder

– A dash of cayenne pepper

– 1 tablespoon brown sugar

– 10-12 pounds whole turkey

– olive oil or softened butter

Instructions

1-First, gather your spices and preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) to set the stage for even cooking. This ensures your turkey comes out juicy and full of flavor from the start.

2-Combine all the dry ingredients in a small bowl and stir well to blend them evenly. This creates the base of your spice rub, ready to transform your turkey. Next, rub the spice blend all over the turkey, making sure to get some under the skin for deeper flavor infusion.

3-For roasting, mix the rub with 1/2 cup of softened unsalted butter or olive oil to make a wet rub that locks in moisture. Apply most of it under the skin and a bit on top to boost browning. If you’re frying or smoking, pat the turkey dry and apply the dry rub directly to the skin for a crispier result.

4-Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a pan and cook for about 13-15 minutes per pound, basting occasionally to keep it moist. Use a meat thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 165Β°F (74Β°C) in the thickest part. Let it rest for 20 minutes before carving, and remember, the whole process takes just minutes to mix and apply the rub.
